India calls for Pakistan to reconsider its decision
India has called for a review of Pakistan's decision on the Jammu and Kashmir issue.
The National Security Council of Pakistan (NSC) on Wednesday decided to cut diplomatic relations with India and suspend all bilateral trade.
Pakistan expels Ajay Bisaria, India's High Commissioner to Islamabad, yesterday. Islamabad also decided to withdraw the Pakistan High Commissioner appointed in India.
India issued a statement today calling for Pakistan to reconsider its decision.
The statement issued by the Indian Foreign Ministry said that Pakistan's decision should be rewritten in the interest of maintaining a normal channel of diplomatic communication.
India's statement further said that Pakistan had decided to portray a horrific picture to the world about the bilateral relations between the two countries.
The central government passed a bill in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, repealing the special status and autonomy of Indian-controlled Jammu and Kashmir. The situation that led to the cancellation of this special status was reviewed at the NSC meeting. The meeting reviewed the plans taken between the two countries. In addition, the NSC meeting decided on a UN approach to the Kashmir issue. After the meeting, a statement said that Pakistan would observe the Independence Day program on August 1 by expressing solidarity with the citizens of Kashmir.
On Tuesday, the Indian government canceled the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and divided it into two union territories. Since then, it has been criticized in the international arena. On that day, the Government of India passed the Bill in the Lok Sabha by repealing Articles 4 and 5 (a) of the Constitution. According to Article 5 of the Constitution, Kashmir will have its own constitution. Apart from this, a decision on anything other than military, communication and foreign policy will require the approval of the state government. The cancellation of the paragraphs caused the people of Kashmir to lose their defenses.
